Our Mission

Hello HDMWA Members and Friends,

As we head into the fall and winter months, now is a good time for those of us in the water industry to review our wet weather and El Niño preparedness. High Desert water systems face a unique set of challenges when significant storms arrive. Even though we operate in a desert environment, intense rainfall can quickly result in flash flooding, erosion, damaged access roads, power outages, debris flows, and impacts to wells, pipelines, pump stations, treatment facilities, and wastewater systems.

Preparedness starts before the first major storm. Review emergency response plans, inspecting drainage around critical facilities, checking generators and fuel supplies, confirming backup communications, exercising valves and emergency equipment, and making sure essential materials and repair supplies are readily available. Just as important is making sure our employees know their roles and that we maintain good communication with neighboring agencies, emergency responders, electrical utilities, and other partners.

For water operations, severe weather is also a reminder of the importance of redundancy and resiliency. A washed-out road, extended power outage, damaged pipeline, or loss of communications can quickly turn into an operational emergency. Taking time now to identify vulnerabilities and prepare contingency plans can make a tremendous difference when crews are responding in the middle of a storm.

We would like to thank our August instructors and presenter. A special thank you, Tanya Harvey of Master Meter and Chris Lambros of HydroPro Solutions, for delivering an informative and entertaining class. We also extend our appreciation to Cesar Garcia of Asterra for providing valuable, innovated technology to detect subsurface water leaks. Most importantly, many thanks to our valued vendors. We can’t say enough how much you are appreciated. 

October Dinner Meeting

It is time for our October Dinner Meeting. We hope you will join us for another evening of education, networking, and fellowship with fellow water professionals from throughout the High Desert. We will also conduct our High Desert Mountain Water Association elections during the evening. Your participation is important to the continued success of our Association, and we encourage all members to attend and take part in the election process.

Serving on the HDMWA Board is an excellent opportunity to support the local water industry, help organize educational opportunities, strengthen relationships among High Desert water agencies and vendors, and help guide the future of our Association.

We are introducing a change of venue; 3rd Strike Beer Company. BBQ catering from the famed “Hatfield Kitchen”. A special room will be provided for us. Enjoy a hosted dinner while connecting with fellow water professionals, engineers, operators, managers, and industry partners from across the High Desert.

2027 Membership
Dues are $30. Members receive discounted pricing for all hosted classes and dinner meetings. 2027 Membership form will be available on the HDMWA website. While membership offers great benefits, membership is not required to attend all classes or dinner meetings, everyone is welcome.
